Synopsis

In May 2020, Catherine Hannah’s drive to work ended in a broken neck, brain injury and PTSD.

Facing the loss of her career, relationships and self identity, Catherine began to examine her fluctuating emotions through the filter of poetry. Left in diary form, the result is a chronological exploration of her changing attitudes towards her diagnoses and her new life. The poetry is complimented by a series of personal photographs.

Those struggling with the impacts of road trauma may relate to Catherine’s response to rehabilitation, legal proceedings and the return to driving; whilst those shouldering trauma of any kind may be familiar with the fear, anger and resentment she encounters. This poetry collection reaches beyond the pain into the little victories and the love that can be found in the lonliest of places. There is hope.

You are not alone.

Throughout the book, her poems are superbly formatted in a manner that charmingly enticed me to discover what happens next. I was never disappointed. Her uncomplicated language takes us through a manifold of multilayered emotions. There are moments of touching despair that made me cry, which were pleasantly dispersed with delicate humour… being a three-time stroke sufferer, I personally liked her poem “Invisible”. My verdict? I cannot recommend this title highly enough”.

-Ivor Steven, writer for Coffee House Writers Magazine and author of Tullawalla and Perceptions.

“I read The Ballad of the Bunny in one sitting… It was so many things: Honest, heartfelt, painful, hopeful, educational, touching and difficult… These poems inspire empathy. They are real and raw. I know poetry is a hard sell, but these are words inspired by real life that need to be read and felt. Thanks Catherine for sharing your heart and soul with us”.

-Mikayla Rogers, author of Through a Different Lens.

“…bought as a loved one has been through a similar experience, and feel it’s given me a better understanding of the kind of feelings and frustrations that they may have felt during their recovery…”.

“This really enlightened me on how car crash victims deal with their experiences and hit home how life changing 1 second can be..”.

“…The poetry is easy to understand, and she describes the disbelief, the fear, the anguish, the anger, and finally how she turns the corner on it all. It brought a lump to my throat on many occasions, and found it poignant and inspirational”.

“A compelling and likeable read, very honest and enlightening. Must surely help others who are going through similar tough times”.
